Domaine Fränk Kayl

About us

The Domaine Fränk Kayl winery is located in the middle of the winemaking village of Remerschen, in an old traditional vintner’s house. Anyone who meets Fränk Kayl quickly realizes: this is not about big showmanship or loud self-promotion but about what truly matters in the glass. His wines are created with a deep respect for their origin and with the goal of expressing, not overpowering, the terroir. A thread that runs through all his wines is an intense, clear fruit character. You immediately get the feeling that the wines genuinely taste of their grapes—precise, lively, and honest. Fränk Kayl consciously avoids mass production, preferring to make smaller quantities with maximum control. Only what he personally enjoys and would drink himself ends up in the bottle. A glance from the village is enough to spot his most important vineyard: about half of his total eight hectares lie on the Kraizberg Kreitzberg slope, which overlooks Remerschen and faces the stunning, protected natural area known as the Remerscher Lakes. The name 'Kraizberg' literally means 'hill at the cross,' and the cross indeed stands right among his vines. Just below it lies a special Riesling parcel, which he vinifies separately and fittingly calls 'La Croix.' Fränk Kayl produced his first own wine in 2004. Before that, the family’s grapes were sold in bulk. For him, it was always clear that once he took over, he wanted to make his own wines and control the quality himself. Although he has a clear affinity for Riesling, he doesn’t stay in the comfort zone. Fränk Kayl also likes to go his own way, stepping off the well-trodden Moselle paths. He is among the few winemakers on the Luxembourg Moselle who produce Sauvignon Blanc. This blend of tradition, precision, and courage is what makes the estate so fascinating.
