Domaine Sunnen-Hoffmann in Remerschen looks back on a long tradition of winemaking. Since its foundation in 1872, the family-run estate has been dedicated to viticulture along the Luxembourg Moselle. Today, Domaine Sunnen-Hoffmann cultivates around nine hectares of vineyards across several sites, including Wintrange Hommelsbierg and Felsbierg, Schwebsange Kolteschbierg, Remerschen Hiischebierg and Jongebierg, as well as Schengen Markusbierg.
For generations, the estate has followed a clear philosophy: producing wines in harmony with nature, allowing the characteristics of their terroir and grape varieties to be expressed as authentically as possible. An important step came in 2000 with the transition to organic viticulture. Since 2001, the vineyards have been certified organic, making Sunnen-Hoffmann the first winery on the Luxembourg Moselle to cultivate its vines according to the standards of Bio-Lëtzebuerg. Since 2011, selected principles of biodynamic agriculture have also been incorporated into the work in the vineyards.
The different soils, slopes and microclimates shape the character of each individual plot. The estate grows grape varieties typical of the Luxembourg Moselle, including Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Each plot is approached and vinified individually to bring out its distinctive characteristics.
In the cellar, Domaine Sunnen-Hoffmann focuses on gentle and precise winemaking. Grapes from individual plots can be vinified separately, temperature-controlled fermentation helps preserve the typical characteristics of each variety, and the grapes are transported to the press using gravity alone, avoiding the need for pumps.
With more than 150 years of family history, Domaine Sunnen-Hoffmann combines tradition with a strong commitment to organic viticulture and a respectful approach to nature. Origin, grape variety and terroir remain at the heart of its philosophy, alongside its pioneering role in organic winemaking on the Luxembourg Moselle.
